The closing date is 09 October 2026 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic receptionist to join our friendly and supportive team at Gordon House Surgery. We are seeking an individual with excellent customer service skills who enjoys working with people and thrives in a busy environment. As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in delivering a professional, efficient and compassionate service. The successful applicant will have strong communication skills, a positive attitude, excellent attention to detail and the ability to remain calm when working under pressure. Previous experience in a GP Practice, NHS setting or healthcare environment is desirable. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be responsible for: Providing a courteous and professional reception service to patients and visitors. Managing incoming telephone calls and responding appropriately to patient enquiries. Booking, cancelling and amending appointments in line with practice procedures. Registering new patients and maintaining accurate patient records. Processing correspondence and administrative tasks. Managing patient requests, signposting and directing patients to the appropriate service. Handling confidential information in accordance with GDPR and NHS confidentiality requirements. Supporting clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative duties. Scanning, filing and maintaining accurate electronic records. Our team is friendly, inclusive and collaborative, and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement Depending on experience The Medical Receptionist role is for an enthusiastic, positive, self-motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of our growing team. Our reception team are the first link for many patients and visitors who come to the surgery. The role varies on a day-to-day basis including greeting patients as they arrive and checking them in, collecting patient notes and ensure that these vital records go to the right healthcare professional. The day-to-day also involves using the clinical system and other software programmes to make appointments, booking patient transport, booking interpreters and dealing with test results. In addition, responding to tasks from clinical and non-clinical staff, liaising with external community services and emergency services and general administration. Our reception team meet regularly to discuss best practice and ways of improving our service; we work very closely with other teams within the practice and community. Desired skills include: - efficiency and ability to multi-task - good communication skills - discretion and respect for confidentiality - a friendly, sympathetic/reassuring manner - knowledge and use of Microsoft Office suite - positive, can-do attitude From time-to-time we ask our reception team to cover annual leave of other team membersthrough working paid over-time.
